#1 Blogging

Blogging became popular several years ago. Back then blogging was all about telling your personal story or more like journaling. Making money off of it wasn’t a thing but in the last couple of years, blogging has become very popular.

Nowadays blogging isn’t only about your journey in life but how can you help your reader. Helping and providing your readers’ information to accomplish or learn something and through this, you can create an income for yourself.

I know trying to figure out what to write about can be daunting and frustrating but there are so many possible niches out there. I started this blog out of the need and desire to share what I’ve learned as a mother with other women.

In the middle of my blogging journey, I found this power couple, Alex and Lauren from Create and Go that offer blogging courses. I learned a ton with their courses.

I highly recommend these courses and the creators are inspirational. Blogging Courses that I can vouch for and recommend:

#2 Affiliate Marketing

When I first started blogging I didn’t know anything about affiliate marketing. It was a brand new concept to me and was pleasantly surprised when I learned more.

Affiliate marketing is earning commissions on products and services when you recommend them and someone purchases that item. Commissions vary from small commissions from Amazon to larger commissions on online courses. Below is a step process of affiliate marketing.

How affiliate marketing works

Once you have your blog up and running and I have started writing blog posts on your niche, make a list of possible affiliates you might want to recommend. For an example of your blog about parenting and kids then Amazon might be a good fit. You can write gift guides for babies, toddlers, moms, etc. If your niche is side hustle moms then maybe blogging courses, Canva, and so on.

The main thing that you should consider when picking an affiliate to promote is if it will provide a solution or solve a problem for your avatar or reader. For example, if your niche is improving your photography then recommending baby products won’t make sense and your readers will get confused and not return to your blog.

I learned the most about affiliate marketing for bloggers and as a side hustle from Michelle Schroeder-Gardner. She created the affiliate marketing course, Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing. This is the most complete and detailed affiliate marketing course I have taken.

If you do decide to choose to blog as a way to make extra money make sure you take a course on blogging and affiliate marketing. You will want to be ahead of the game. I waited for way too long to learn the specifics on blogging and affiliate marketing.

#3 Etsy Seller (Start An Etsy Shop)

Selling on Etsy was my first side hustle venture. I was scared and had no idea where to begin. I knew of only one person that sold on Etsy, and it was a friend of a friend. When I spoke to her she gave me some tips and a lot of encouragement. That’s when I opened up Wonderlust Photos ( I have changed the name a couple of times).

Now I have four Etsy shops and enjoy them a lot. Besides making side hustle money (I still have my full-time accounting career) it gives me something to do that I enjoy and love. Etsy is a great platform for beginners. Etsy drives its own traffic so actual selling isn’t as difficult as having your website.

There is a learning curve to selling on Etsy and there are things that are a must and things that should be avoided. Check out this post on reasons why Etsy is a great platform and on Etsy mistakes to avoid.

The ideas are endless. Make sure first that there is a demand for it and make sure you are able to ship it for a reasonable price or offer free shipping (everyone loves free shipping).

A few tips for selling on ebay:

  • offer free shipping

  • get your Priority Mail boxes from your local Post Office for free

  • take your photos in the day time with natural light

  • use the free Snapseed app to adjust your photos

  • post more than one photos, use different angles

  • write a description as if there wasn’t a photo

  • make sure you are making a profit

If you already have a buyer eBay account you don’t need to open another one. You can also get the ebay app and take your photos on your phone and upload it to ebay.

#5 Freelance Writer

Believe it or not, you can get paid for writing and writing what you enjoy. Freelance writing is a great way to earn some extra money.

Here are a couple of places that accept writing submissions. The pay and guidelines vary.

But before you get started on these sites I highly advise you to take a course or two. Taking a course will give you more insight into the freelance trade and give you a different perspective and ideas on how to begin and be successful.

Elna Cain is a blogger and freelance writer that I follow and highly respect. She also offers three-course on writing and freelance writing that would be great for someone who wants to start or improve their freelance writing.

#8 Dropshipping

Dropping shipping is the process by which you sell products that you don’t house in your location but are from another e-commerce site such as Aliexpress. When a customer purchases from your website, you order the item from the chosen e-commerce site such as Aliexpress and mail it directly to the customer.

This is another good option for stay at mothers who prefer not to have a brick and mortar shop. You can do everything from your home. Also, there are no overhead costs for products and storing products.

As mothers, we also have a good insight on what other mothers might like and want to buy. Mothers and baby products could be one of many niches.

There are two things you need, a website such as Shopify or Wordpress and the e-commerce site of your choice from where to ship the products.
